Forte Group
As a UX/UI consultant for Forte Group I worked with their priority client CNH Industrial to audit and redesign tablet touch interfaces for Agricultural Tractors. Impressing them with my ability to communicate insights I was then also tasked with performing competitor analysis and research synthesis for their Sugar Cane Harvester touch interfaces.
CASE STUDY: Tractor Icon Audit
In Europe new legislation referred to as EU Mother Regulation would potentially mandate strict touch interface icon rules; originally documented and created for physical icons inside and on cabin dashboards and machine controls. It was my responsibility to learn these rules inside ISO 7000 Graphical Symbols Used On Equipment, audit the entire tractor touch interface and redesign any icons and effected interfaces. I organized and communicated thousands of icons and their separate instances into an excel document; and would then get approval of my submission for redesigns.
A leadership check in occurred toward the end of the process where I communicated that the EU regulation was not actually explicit in its understanding or recommendation for digital touch interfaces. The regulation and symbol libraries did not have an innate or functioning perspective on digital touch interfaces; as it was created for physical cabin controls exclusively. The symbol language was also outdated referencing 40-50 year old technology for symbol creation; which might actually cause driver confusion when attempting to operate their equipment entirely through the touch screen. Other ISO regulatory documents had added sections for best touch interface practices when considering the needs of digital and touch interface controls ; nuclear control room touch screens and motor vehicle touch screen regulations as examples.
CASE STUDY: Sugar Cane Harvester Synthesis
While Tractor work continued I was also asked to take on additional responsibility with the Sugar Harvester projects. I updated a few interfaces as well as Icons and finally synthesized competitor analysis and user research.
